Colour Picker Privacy Policy
Colour Picker is a free Chrome extension made by Escher Group, Perth, Western Australia. This policy explains what the extension does with information.
Last updated 7 October 2026
The short version
Your picks and palettes stay on your own computer. The extension collects nothing about you, and sends nothing to us or to anyone else.
What we collect
Nothing. Colour Picker has no accounts, no sign in, no servers and no analytics. We do not receive any information about you, the pages you pick colours from, or the colours you pick. We cannot see whether you have installed it or how you use it. The Chrome Web Store shows us overall numbers, such as how many people have the extension installed, but never who they are.
How the extension works
Colour Picker never runs on its own. It looks at a page only after you click its icon in the toolbar, or press its keyboard shortcut (Alt+Shift+C), while that page is open. Chrome does not let it see any other tab or any other site, which keeps the rest of your browsing private.
To let you pick a colour, the extension takes a picture of the part of the page you can see and shows its picker over the top. When you click, it reads the colour of that one spot. The picture is held only while you are picking. It is never saved or sent anywhere, and it is cleared when you stop. If you scroll while picking, it takes a fresh picture. On a page where you have clicked the icon, the buttons in the side panel can start a new pick. The extension does not read the page's words, code or fonts.
To show the picker, the extension adds its own layer and typeface to the page. The layer is removed when you stop picking, and the typeface goes when the page is reloaded.
"Pick from anywhere on screen" uses Chrome's own eyedropper, which can pick a colour from anything on your screen, including other apps. Only the one colour you click is passed to the extension.
What is stored on your computer
Everything the extension keeps is stored by Chrome on your own computer, in the extension's own storage. It is never synced, uploaded or sent anywhere. Specifically:
- Your recent picks, up to 40, with the time you picked each one. Clear them at any time with "Clear".
- Palettes you save, up to 50, with the names you give them. Remove any of them at any time with "Remove".
- The palette you are working on, so it is still there next time.
- The palette you last chose to print, so the print page can show it. It is replaced the next time you print.
Everything above is removed when you uninstall the extension.
Copying and printing
The copy buttons put colour codes on your clipboard when you click them. The extension never reads your clipboard.
"Print or save as PDF" opens a page made on your computer and uses Chrome's own print window. Nothing is sent anywhere.
What websites can see
So that the picker can use it, the extension makes its typeface available to the pages you visit. Like many extensions that do this, it means a website could tell that Colour Picker is installed. It cannot see anything you have picked or saved.
Links to our website
The side panel and the brand card contain links to Escher Group. If you click one, the address includes a tag that tells our website you came from the extension. It does not say who you are, which pages you visited, or which colours you picked. Our website has its own privacy policy.
Permissions the extension asks Chrome for
- activeTab: lets the extension see a page only after you click its icon, or press its shortcut, on that page.
- scripting: used to show the picker on that page.
- storage: used to keep your recent picks and palettes on your computer, as described above.
- sidePanel: used to show the picker's panel beside the website.
The extension asks for no access to websites in general, and includes no code from anywhere other than the extension package itself.
Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
The use of information by Colour Picker, including what it reads from websites, adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. It is used only for the features described in this policy.
Children
The extension is a business tool and is not directed at children. Since it collects no information, it collects none from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new date. The extension's listing on the Chrome Web Store links here.
